    Hard to figure out whats the best or correct play in that kind of spots.

    You played it fine, but since usually he either c/c flop with a FD, a straight draw or a monster 7xxx or a full house, I would check back turn, just because when you bet turn, most draws must now fold+you are not really afraid of FD, so you do not need to protect that much now that you picked up some showdown value. Most hands that will now call or c/r on this blank turn include a 7. For that reason I will check back turn with some nice showdown value+FD outs, and probably bluffcatch river if he leads a blank, because there are enough draws on flop that missed which he will be turning into a bluff so a river call depending on timing and sizing tells will be profitable IMO.
